A Simple Way to Test Your Words
One of my favorite stories about titles is from Tim Ferris.
You know him from THE 4 HOUR WORKWEEK, a book about how to optimize and automate your business so you can focus on the things that are important to you.
The story is about how he came up with the title.
He used Google Adwords and tried out a few different titles for his book, including the one I like the most.
Drug Dealing for Fun and Profit.
But The 4 Hour Workweek got the most clicks, and so that’s the one he used.
And it worked.
The book spawned a blog, spawned a small media empire with a podcast that’s been downloaded in the multi-millions.
All from a little simple test.
Because would Drug Dealing be more effective?
Not according to the test.
And anyone in marketing will tell you to test everything, from title to font to color to image to call to action.
Everything might lead to better conversions.
It could get expensive now.
Plus we’re not really in the marketing business, per se.
