P’s & Q’s — part two of a thriller in progress
Chapter Two
Her new partner looked fresh out of the academy.
Eyes too wide, too bright, and a smile too close on her yet to be skeptical face.
Jeri didn’t not like her.
But she didn’t like her either, and she hoped it was just a first impression thing.
Until she opened her mouth.
“OMG,” she seemed on the verge of squealing. “You’re Jeri Rise. I know you.”
Jeri gave a curt nod of her head and stared at Brown for a moment, as if to ask, are you sure about this.
He gave her a grim smile from his even grimmer visage and she knew two things.
He was sure about it, and he was doing it on purpose.
It being the bubbly blond standing in the doorway.
“You know they teach your case at the Academy,” she beamed.
Jeri wondered if there was going to be a lot of beaming in her life now, and gave a half hearted one back.
“It wasn’t that long ago.”
“No, I mean, I took it on a weekend course,” beamed Beth. “Like a refresher. You take those don’t you. CE credits.”
