Saturday Special 6 15

I went for a run in Florence Alabama at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.

I got to sleep in a little bit because we got in so late and went to bed at midnight.

I saw beautiful moments that made me smile like a murder of crows collected around construction like they were studying blueprints.

Or the play of the sunlight across the cliffs on the river is it played peekaboo with the morning clouds.

I saw a couple of other runners and a couple of morning walkers who all greeted me with a smile and a wave and an occasional good morning.

I saw something that gave me a moments confusion at first.

Two young good old boys sitting at a picnic table beside the river.

One had a Stanley cup.

The other had an old battered looking green Stanley thermos.

And whatever he was drinking let off a wisp of steam and the still cool shadows of breaking Dawn.

Both of them had open books laid out on the concrete in front of them as they drink coffee and red.

Not weird in my world to see people reading or maybe it is now.

I have been known carry a book with me at all times through my twenties and thirties packed somewhere in a car or a bag so I could capture a few words while I waited.

Waiting for whatever inevitable weight should occur. As they often do. But I overheard a snatch of conversation. And used my Superior detecting skills of eavesdropping to learn they were reading the bible.

Two something good old boys sitting down by the river.

Fellowship.

Not a bad way to start a Saturday.
