I read this in the afternoon, but it’s another FREE round up of stories, but with a different focus. MORNING BREW
My personal reading list has been heavy on LT PAYNE and an EMP boxset. I’m always surprised at people who make dumb decisions during the end of the world, which boils down to “they didn’t hunker down.”
But someone pointed out in one of my end of days books, “why didn’t they just stay in their house?”
So I guess I do it too.
Or the people I write do it.
Dumb things.
That’s sort of the whole point of stories, though, right?
The best ones start with “Hold my beer,” or “One time, at Band Camp…”
Then idiocy occurs.
I’ve been watching a show on PRIME called PATRIOT, which is just a weird kind of good.
And the main character in it keeps doing one dumb thing that complicates another, which makes it quirky and off beat and really well done.
If you like that kind of thing.
But that’s the whole point of a good story boiled down to figuring it out when Sh*t Happens.
Like Battlefield Z. This is a story about a guy trying to find his children lost in a zombie filled wasteland.
Or Shadowboxer Files. The world’s luckiest hitman runs into a bunch of bad luck.
Or The Marshal of Magic who has one job. Find bad witches and bring ’em in.
Except…
There’s nothing simple or easy or straight forward in what happens.
Because…
We can’t just “hunker down.” We need food. And Water. And eventually, we need to check on loved ones or reach loved ones.
We can’t just make it easy, because easy was a yesterday solution and yesterday’s don’t exist anymore.
People exist at cross purposes, which creates conflict, which is how good stories happen.
He said hold my beer, but then I dropped it.
She said one time at band camp, but I knew she was lying.
That’s when the good trouble begins.
