Danny crouched low behind the rusted metal barricade, eyes locked on the distant figure. The wind kicked up dust, stinging his eyes, but he didn’t blink. He couldn’t. His target was just a hundred yards out, pacing back and forth in front of the old warehouse.

“Is he alone?” Tess whispered from behind him, her voice barely audible.

Danny shook his head. “No. He’s never alone.”

Tess shifted her weight, adjusting the grip on her rifle. “What’s the play?”

Danny scanned the area. The target wasn’t moving much, just standing there, waiting. But the shadows beyond him shifted. Danny knew there were more. They always hid in the dark, blending into the background, but he could feel them.

“We move in slow,” he said, voice tight. “Flank the building, make sure we’re not walking into a trap.”

Tess nodded, her face set in grim determination. Danny glanced back at her once, saw the exhaustion in her eyes, the way her shoulders sagged. They’d been running on fumes for days now, pushing their bodies past the limit. But there was no other option. This was the endgame.

Without another word, Danny rose, keeping low to the ground. Tess followed, her movements quiet and precise. They circled around the warehouse, sticking to the shadows. The wind howled…
