What is a blue duck?

It’s remarkable.

Have you ever seen a blue duck?

Probably not, but if you did, it would be the only thing you would talk about.

You would bring it up for years, sitting at a bar, and telling people, “Hey, one time, I saw this blue duck.”

Why?

Because we share remarkable tales, things that are out of the ordinary, things that move beyond our expected routine.

A blue duck is never routine.

It is not what anyone expects.

When I ran a small team in sales, I talked about the reason we did “the thing.”

The “thing” was the grind.

Hacking away at piles of leads searching for the gold among the chafe.

Sometimes, there was a lot of chafe.

But I told my team we had a blue duck.

A product so remarkable that people wouldn’t be able to help themselves.

They would not only flock to buy it, they would tell people about it.

Which would help us help more people in turn.
